IN THE REALM OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH
By Sergio Giral
USA First Amendment allows and protects everybody to express his or her opinion and position toward political or social life, what includes the possibility to express freely their feelings and position toward the Cuban dictatorship. In consequence a numerous of those dictators followers go around proclaiming the glitzy and goodness of such system. Others tend to justify or simply ignore the Cuban people real situation, including those who have never been in Cuba or long enough to really know what happens over there. I have heard justification to the government repression such as; the acts of repudiation during the Mariel boatlift and today’s Ladies in White are spontaneous outpouring of patriotic indignation, avoiding the coordination with the state security agents and the CDR Mussolini alike fascistic watch. Others sustain Cause number #1 and Cause #2 witch condemned high rank Cuban militaries and officials to fire squad, was a deserved punishment for those who betrayed Castro’s confidence, therefore Cuban people interests. Some blame USA government and its capitalist system to be the only guilty for shortage and hardship suffered by the Cuban people, caused by the American blockade and false continuous threats of war, forgetting Castro’s regime intentionally used former Soviet Union aids to create and support guerrilla in Latin America and sent soldiers to fight and die in the Angola war, to pay back his benefactor. It seems to be easy to forget everything that happens in the Caribbean island is a result of Castro’s mandates, will and fabrications to manipulate the people and preserve his Kingdome of Power and Fear, depriving the people of their rights to worldwide information and sentencing to long prison sentences to those Cubans who express views critical of the Communist regime. Since 1959, Castro has suspended fundamental freedoms, including the freedom to emigrate. During 2003 Spring the shooting of three Black youths who tried to kidnap a maritime vessel to flee to United States without hurting any passengers and the 75 peaceful poets, activists and independent journalists who were sentenced to terms of up to 28 years in prison, are refutable facts. In a country where people have had to develop a double morality in order to survive and mostly accepting and obeying the government’s mandates against there will or real interest. The Cuban population is to worry on finding food and to resolve their everyday needs the Sate doesn’t or/and waiting patiently for their Cuban exiles relatives to send them allowance. I also have heard some saying Ladies in White and all those who have the courage and valor to protest against injustice and arbitrary dictatorship demanding changes, are paid by the USA government instead of delivering the respect and recognition they deserve. Maybe this Cuban dictatorship speakers are real supporters or just paid agents of influence, trying to lead the blinds, paid or not, to the wrong path in this Realm of Freedom of Speech.
